Projects

RHSET Project - Rural Health Support, Education and Training (RHSET) Program, Department of Health and Family Services – Rural Health Section

This program is a men's health and farm safety skill development and training program for GP's, health professionals and community workers.

The funding has allowed the MAN model to be developed in four states. Extensive work is taking place in South Australia at Laura, in Central Queensland with the Central Queensland Rural Division of General Practice and in the Northern Territory, with projects completed in NSW.

RHSET - Heart of the Grampians - Cardio Vascular Disease - The key agencies involved in this program are the Ballarat Community Health Centre, Grampians Community Health Centre, West Wimmera Health Service, Daylesford Community Health Centre and Djerriwarrh Health Service.

The project based on the MAN Model will involve an innovative community approach through knowledge and awareness, to reduce the risk of heart disease in men, women and adolescents.

Men's Health Projects – Castlemaine, Daylesford, Apollo Bay, Mordialloc, Manningham, Warracknabeal, Laura (S.A.), Albury/Corowa (N.S.W.), Central Queensland and Ouyen and Over 25 other projects have been assisted through our Resources and support.

Koori Health Projects – Shepparton and the Northern Territory.

Man .… Being a Father Parenting Course – Castlemaine, Daylesford, Apollo Bay, Trentham, Kyneton, Ballarat and Laura – South Australia.  A recognised parenting course for men, addressing the issues of parenting, family relationships, parenting partnership and values of the family (currently being evaluated by RMIT). Man … Being a Father – Part of the Men's Health Kit - Community Resource, launched February 1998.

Adolescent Program – The ASK Lifeskills Program for Adolescents addresses the issues of boys (and girls) in Year 9 and 10.

The program is in its second year at Weeroona College, Bendigo (formerly known as Whitehills Secondary College), with sessions into their third year at Daylesford Secondary College. Nine Schools in Ballarat and 8 schools in Queensland have adopted the program with Laura, SA, Canberra and Darwin joining later in 1999.  In 1999 this program will target over 2000 students.

Health Screenings for Year 12 students – Healthy Breakfast with local GP's Second year at Daylesford Secondary College Developing Health Screenings for Teachers

Primary Schools – "Kidsafe on the Farm", farm safety program for primary school children throughout rural Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.

Laura and Districts Hospital received a major Workcover Award for their program in farm safety.

Workplace Men's Health Programs - These consist of Health Screenings and talks to the participants.
