Follow-Up
Questionnaire to Men's Health Nights and Sessions
The following
information was obtained through a follow-up questionnaire mailed to 250
participants involved in the Men's Health Nights and Sessions since 1995
in Castlemaine, Laura, Manningham, Ouyen, and Warracknabeal:
- 62% of respondents
noticed an improvement or felt better about their general health
- 75% of respondents
reported a greater health awareness
- 53% of respondents
visited a GP
- 89% of respondents
reported that their GP or Health Professional (HP) was more responsive
- 78% of respondents
reported that their appointment was easier
- Outcomes of the
visit to the GP or HP included specialist referrals (26%), medication
(39%) and an identified health problem (35%)
- 79% or respondents
did not participate in smoking, but of those who did, 66% had given
up or reduced smoking
- 37% or respondents
did not drink alcohol, but of those who did, 49% had given up or reduced
their intake
- The Men's Health
Night had also helped respondents give up or reduce fat intake (74%),
stress levels (47%) and improved eating habits (75%)
- 51% of respondents
had increased their levels of exercise
- 81% of respondents
believed the night had had an impact on their general health
- 54% of respondents
believed the night had had an impact on their family
- 88% of respondents
believed the night had had an impact on their approach to health
- 87% of respondents
believed the night had had an impact on their general outlook and attitude
- 66% of respondents
had attended follow up sessions held in their area, the most popular
programs included Heart Health (28%), Prostate Cancer (24%), Exercise,
Stress & Fitness (18%), Cancers (12%) and Diabetes (10%)
- 96% of respondents
reported that Men's Health Night and Follow-Up Sessions were worthwhile
- 99% of respondents
would recommend that other communities have a Men's Health Night/Program
in their area.
