Practitioner Session Evaluation Understanding
and Engaging Men and Adolescents
 

 

Overall the respondents have found that the Session to be Excellent. The information on Men and Adolescents Health Excellent, and that they felt that they had gained new knowledge from the session. They also reported that they now had a better understanding of adolescent issues and that overwhelmingly the session had supported them in how to better engage and understand males.

All respondents noted that the session was valuable. That it increased their awareness of issues for men, especially in regard to relationships. It also gave them practical information, ideas and reinforced what they knew but increased their knowledge. Due to the information and strategies given in the sessions they felt that they could make their services more male friendly and develop partnerships with other services.

They found that the session was valuable in giving them a greater understanding of male health in regard to screening and information sessions.

They felt that the most important issues for them that the session covered were men and relationships, adolescent issues, normalising and men "getting a quick result from engaging with a health service".

The respondents also felt that all areas listed in the questionnaire were important, but the issues of relationships, stress, heart disease, wellbeing and Use of Practitioners were rated slightly higher overall.

All respondents indicated that they would be interested in supporting a Men's Health Night for their community.

The session had also made them think about their own health and wellbeing, but as one female respondent said "No - but will certainly be talking to my husband and son, and son-in-law". The majority of the respondents indicated that they already visit a Health Practitioner, some as a result of this session will visit a Health Practitioner, while some will think about it.

Comments: GPs and Health Workers attending the sessions

  • No experience previously with men's health so it as all pertinent, interesting for me. Hope to use all the information for future planning.
  • Given very practical ideas for men's program. Challenging and encouraging. Great understanding of rural health issues.
  • Down to earth - practical. Encouraging - especially that you ask people hat they want and provide that info to them.
  • Gives clear strategies and proven practice to support statements on improving men's health.
  • Ideas about how we can make our services more "male friendly".
